After the Tarot was introduced to Italy from France in the 18th century, Italian artists and printers began creating and publishing their own decks, offering Italian alternatives to the popular French Marseilles decks. The most magnificent of these new decks was created in Milan in 1835 by the engraver Carlo DellaRocca. The Classical Tarots cards are a feast for the eyes, employing detailed line work and deep, rich colors. Lush and vibrant, these cards illustrate the drama, complexity, even the humor and weirdness of life. The pips, in the style of the Marseilles decks, have the requisite number of suit symbols arranged on each card.
