Sri Aurobindo represents a synthesis of the teachings of West and East. Not content with a transcendental, other-worldly God-consciousness, nor with the outer life and its powers, Sri Aurobindo created the teachings of a Divine Life on Earth. This is his masterly exposition on the pre-eminent Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita. It was after reading these essays in particular that President Wilson's daughter went to Sri Aurobindo in the 1930s and devoted her life - receiving the name Nishtha via his vision in the Sri Aurobindo Ashram at Pondicherry.
